Hotels aim to attract locals with deals

By Pan Eiswe Star

SEVERAL hotels in Yangon have introduced special room rates aimed at attracting locals and expatriates with hopes of filling in gaps in occupancy left by a lack of foreign travellers to Myanmar in recent weeks.

Hotel Nikko Royal Lake is offering two types of Star Experience packages through the end of this month for locals and foreign residents.

The first, priced at US$58, includes one night of accommodation with breakfast and one lunch or dinner. The $88 package adds one-hour massages for two adults.

The hotel also has Star Residence packages for $45 inclusive of one night’s stay in a studio suite as well as breakfast.

Families with one or two children of up to eight years of age who take advantage of these deals can also get a 20 percent discount for any treatment at Lilawadee Spa and 15pc discounts at all food and beverage outlets at the hotel.

Traders Hotel has reduced rates for deluxe rooms for locals and foreign residents to $55 a night including breakfast, with the offer valid until the end of December.

“We’ve had a few bookings from business travellers in October as well as some locals and expats staying during the weekend,” said Ma Yinn Mar Nyo, the assistant director of sales at the hotel.

Parkroyal Yangon Hotel has extended to December its special monsoon rate for locals: For $45 two people can get one night of accommodation in a deluxe room with breakfast.

“We also reopened our restaurants for business at night starting on October 13” said Ma Susie Moe Aung, the hotel’s director of sales.

At Summit Parkview Hotel locals can get one night of accommodation in a superior room with breakfast for $35.

Kandawgyi Palace Hotel’s special package, aimed at locals and foreign residents, is priced at $65 a person and includes a one-night stay with breakfast, lunch and dinner.

With its My Home packages, Sedona Hotel is offering one night in a deluxe room and breakfast for a family of two adults and one child for $50. The deal is available for locals and expats.

Families who take advantage of the package can get a 15pc discount on food and beverages at the hotel, as well as a voucher for 30pc off purchases at Paddy O’Malley’s Pub.
