Beach resorts entice holidaymakers with Thadingyut deals

By Pan Eiswe Star and Zaw Winn
Ngwe Saung Beach offers a calming atmosphere for those seeking to escape the hassles of the city for the holidays.

RESORT hotels at Myanmar’s major beach destinations have unveiled special Thadingyut packages aimed at attracting locals and foreign residents to the coast for the holidays.

Amazing Ngapali Resort is offering three-day/two-night packages through the end of November, priced at US$239 a person for foreign residents and K229,000 for locals.

The package includes return airfare, accommodation in a deluxe sea-view room, breakfast, a boat trip to Pearl Island for snorkelling and fishing, airport transfers and sightseeing at three nearby pagodas and Thandwe market.

Ngapali Beach Hotel’s Thadingyut package is available until the end of October. The price of $155 a person for foreign residents and K150,000 for locals includes roundtrip airfare, two nights of accommodation, breakfast and airport transfer.

Yuzana Resort at Ngwe Saung has announced three-day/two-night packages for October 26 to 28 and November 23 to 25, available to locals for K99,000 to K119,000 and expats for $102 to $127, depending on the level of accommodation chosen.

“We’ve received booking inquires for about 50 percent of our hotel’s capacity, mostly from locals,” said Ma Yin Myat Thwe, the senior sales executive at Yangon-based Yuzana Garden Hotel, which is run by the same company as the resort.

“It seems that locals are more interested than expats because the package is good for travel during a local seasonal festival,” she said.

Treasure Transportation in Yangon is also offering package tours to Ngwe Saung through the end of this month to promote holiday travel to the beach.
The three-day/two-night tours – departures for which are available through October 30 – include bus transport, accommodation at Myanmar Treasure Resort and breakfast, said U Thura Win, the manager of Treasure Transportation.

He said packages were priced according to the type of accommodations chosen, with superior room packages costing US$105 for foreigners and K120,000 for locals, garden-view bungalows $115 for foreigners and K130,000 for locals, and sea-view bungalows $120 for foreigners and K140,000 for locals. Prices are per person.

The buses leave from Yangon for Ngwe Saung every Tuesday and Friday on the condition that at least four people are using the service, U Thura Win said.
