WRITER and poet U Moe Hein (son) Journal Kyaw said he is considering
setting up a school and residence for orphans and underprivileged
children in Pyin Oo Lwin on his 65th birthday on December 10.
He said the Dahat Model Philanthropic Nursery would be cofounded
with artist U Myo Khin (Htan Yeik Nyo), who would dedicate part
of his compound in Pyin Oo Lwin to housing the school.
U Moe Hein said he chose the name “dahat,” a kind
of flower that grows deep in the forest, because it reminded him
of the predicament faced by orphans and underprivileged children.
“I’m not opening the nursery because I have to but
because I want to share some of the responsibility taken by monasteries
in caring for these children,” he said, adding that the
number of children he can care for will depend on his budget and
the amount of donations he receives.
He said he wants to ensure that the children have the ability
to benefit the world one day.
“I want to support them in their pursuit of education
and good morals, teach them to treasure their own religion and
encourage them to participate actively in social welfare,”
he said.
He said he would focus not only on providing academic educations
for the children but also on preparing them to work as professionals
and stand on their own feet.
