THIS comfortable but unremarkable three-bedroom apartment in Ahlone township offers secure living but lacks any features likely to inspire tenants to hang around at home any longer than they need.

Located on the first floor of a seven-storey block, the 1770-square-foot pad has never been lived in, with the interior completed two months ago after the owner bought the apartment in 2006.

The entrance to the flat is via a wide balcony running across the front of the apartment. There is one apartment per floor and access to the balcony is sealed off with a sliding iron gate.

Double wooden doors open from the living room to the strip of outdoors space, which catches a lot of sun and could use a sunshade fitted overhead like the apartments on the other levels have.

The living room has a polished parquet floor and an attractive chandelier with tasteful plaster skirting, complemented by several inset lights that help create a warm atmosphere against the cream walls.

Unfortunately, the deeper you go into the home the less attractive it is. This is largely due to the absence of windows on one side (thanks to the staircase running to the upper levels) and a neighbouring apartment building on the other – which means unless drainpipes and dirty walls are your thing, there is not going to be much lazy daydreaming going on by the windowsill.

On the plus side, there is a voltage regulator in the living room that covers the whole apartment.

There are two equal-sized single bedrooms on either side of the hallway (take your pick of a room with no view), and one master bedroom with its own bathroom, light dimmers and a fire escape out back.

The dining room is spacious, but a basin and white tiles covering the floor and walls make the room appear like an oversized, unfurnished bathroom.

The kitchen is also a good size but, like much of the rear of the apartment, lacks natural lighting.

Every room has telephone and satellite TV sockets, although neither connections are offered in the sale.

Overall, the apartment is a solid buy, but a little shopping around should yield a more inviting home.
