Brig-Gen Aung Thein Linn said 36 three-storey buildings and 36 single-level cottages were also to be built within the 29-acre jade-trading centre under development. The buildings will be used as jewellery shops and as accommodation for jade industry specialists visiting Yangon, he said.

On October 9 U Maung Maung Oo underwent an operation at New Yangon General Hospital to have a kidney removed and transplanted to his 43-year-old sister Daw Swe Swe Oo, who has suffered from kidney problems since 1996 and has undergone dialysis treatments for the past year and a half.

 
THE government plans to install two new power transmission lines from local substations to suburban areas of Yangon by the end of the year to reduce reliance on the national power grid, an official from the Yangon City Electricity Supply Board (YESB) said earlier this month.
 

“For example, some farmland in Shan State is located on hills and it can be very difficult to get water from valleys to the hilltops,” U Hla Tun said. “Our foot pumps help farmers get water into these areas.”

“I like velvet slippers because they never slip off, go with any colour of dress and are easy to put on and take off,” she said, adding that they are also long-lasting and can survive the daily grind for up to six months.
