THE Myanmar Ceramic Society (MCS) will hold a one-day ceramic
exhibition next week with the aim of showcasing the best of Myanmar’s
ceramic arts and boosting the local industry.
The exhibition, “Introduction to the tradi-style ceramic
arts”, will be held at the International Business Centre
(IBC) on Pyay Road from 1 to 4pm on November 10 only.
“Technically, you could probably say this exhibition will
be the second time that we’ve displayed our art because
we held our first show at Alliance Française last year,”
said U Aung Myo Thaik, who is an MCS executive committee member.
He said about 40 items will be on display.
“We made some of these items using Japanese designs. All
interested persons and the general public can see them before
they are collected by the people who commissioned them,”
he said.
The Japanese-designed items range from liquor goblets to souvenir
items and are merely samples. U Aung Myo Thaik said MCS is hoping
to mass-produce these items in the future if their Japanese clients
are satisfied with the quality.
“We also have some pieces that our artists made using
modern designs,” he said, adding that MCS would also like
to export these in the future.
Other items that will be on displayed include decorated ceramic
floor and wall tiles.
“Some of the wall tiles have been deliberately made in
the traditional Myanmar arts and crafts style. These particular
tiles were made to order for hotel construction projects at Ngwe
Saung Beach,” U Aung Myo Thaik said.
MCS announced, through U Aung Myo Thaik, that it hopes to make
a record of the exhibition by inviting local media organisations
to attend.
“In this way, we plan to attract lots of people and hopefully
some of these will in turn make orders for their own ceramic items.
We expect that this will be a good way of developing the local
ceramic industry.”
