At the ceremony on November 12 the Singaporean ambassador to Myanmar, Mr Robert Chua, presented a cash award in kyat equivalent to S$100 to Ma Su Nandar Zaw Win, a grade-five student at Basic Education Primary School (2) in Botahtaung township, Yangon.

“A process is now moving that will hopefully lead to a substantive dialogue with concrete outcomes within an agreed timeframe between the leadership of the State Peace and Development Council and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi,” Mr Gambari told the 15-member council.

One professional astronomer from United States said the outburst was “a once-in-a-lifetime event to witness” that was expected to last for weeks. Astronomers have observed that the comet, since it does not have a tail, looks like a blurred moon when viewed through a telescope.

“Political will is the key. If countries don’t have the political will to push through with these reforms, this will remain just a dream,” said a Southeast Asian trade official, talking on condition of anonymity.

“I must say I have met a large number of people that I have asked [to meet],” said the Brazilian academic, whose November 11 to 15 visit to Myanmar was his first in four years. “

“In previous years the production of electricity from hydropower projects dropped about 50 percent during the dry season but this year we expect it to drop only about 30pc,”

“Every year human settlements expand and more animal farming areas are established, which means they are closer to areas inhabited by wild birds,” U Zaw Win Myat said. “

“HONEY! You have a call,” a sweet voice said softly from a phone at Aroma café in downtown Yangon, alerting its owner that, surprisingly enough, he had an incoming call. A few minutes later 50 Cent was heard telling another diner he was going to “party like it’s your birthday”. He too had someone calling.

“Also, ships traveling off the coast of Mon State and Tanintharyi Division should be alert to the dangers of rough seas caused by easterly winds from areas of high atmospheric pressure moving from China to Myanmar,”

Major General Hla Htay Win, chairman of the Yangon Division Peace and Development Council, said earnings for the year ending March 31, 2007 were K460 million more than the city’s bus supervisory committee made in 2005-06.

“The main cause of the decrease is people shifting to other investments. Because gold prices are firm and car prices are down, most people want gold instead of cars,”

“We have given Myanmar a concrete proposal to utilise its gas to produce fertiliser here in Bangladesh. Later, the fertiliser would be exported to Myanmar,” Bangladesh commerce secretary Feroz Ahmed told reporters in Dhaka.

“People are more interested in interior decoration than they were five years ago,” he said. “It’s playing a more important role in both retail chains and individual shops. They’ve got to pay attention to the décor to attract more customers,”

“What most construction sites lack is the use of personal protection equipment such as safety glasses, shoes and helmets. What construction workers often wear is a pair of slippers and a longyi. Not wearing the proper protective gear leads to very unsafe conditions,”

“One day I couldn’t see clearly. Suddenly either my vision was too bright or too dark and everything was blurred. Reading and writing became very difficult, but the hardest part was that my teacher didn’t believe me.

“All I need is the gist of what they want me to say and the rest I make up as I go along,” he said. “An MC’s job is to make sure the wedding runs smoothly and to ensure that everyone has a good time.”

“I have a good under-standing of the bodybuilding mentality because I have also competed at past SEA Games. To win the gold at this regional tournament would be very impressive and it would give them even more strength from the glory,”
