By May Oo Moe

THE Parkroyal Yangon hotel introduced a new executive chef – Mr Somsakdi Thepsuwan – at a special welcoming lunch on November 27.

Mr Somsakdi was last employed at the Miracle Grand Convention Hotel in Bangkok and brings with him over 37 years of culinary experience in Asian and European cuisines.

“I started as a cook in 1970 at the Oriental hotel in Bangkok and then moved around other top hotels in Bangkok like the Hilton, Siam, Radison and Winsor Suits hotels,” he said.

Mr Yap Tsok Faung, food and beverage manager at the Parkroyal Yangon, said he was extremely pleased to have a new executive chef.

“We warmly welcome this chef who will bring fresh ideas with him. We expect the quality of our food and beverages will scale new heights, especially in the preparation of European cuisine,” he said.

Mr Somsakdi has already introduced a new five-course set menu that includes crispy soft shell crab served with tangy green mango salad; a clear chicken soup with young spinach, potato and diced chicken; duckling seasoned with ginger, pineapple, crispy wonton, curried potato, spinach and vegetable pearls.

Dessert is vanilla ice cream and mixed fresh fruits.Coffee and tea follow round out the meal.
