THE head of the Yangon office of the United Nations Population
Fund, Mr Daniel Baker, will serve as the interim UN resident coordinator
in Myanmar until a new appointment is made to replace Mr Charles
Petrie, who departed from the country on December 4, a UN source
in Yangon said last week.
Mr Petrie had held the post since July 2003.
He was also the resident representative of the United Nations
Development Program, as well as the UN Humanitarian Coordinator,
a position to which he was appointed in November 2006.
The UN source could not comment last week on when the new resident
coordinator would be appointed.
Mr Baker, a United States national, has been working in Yangon
since March 2005.
