JIVITADANA Sangha Hospital in Bahan township will host its 18th
annual charity fair on December 22 from noon until late evening,
said U Maung Maung, the secretary of the hospital’s administrative
department.
He said the charity fair would include an anyeint performance
with a traditional Myanmar orchestra, dancers and a team of famous
comedians led by U Khin Zaw.
The fair will also feature more than 30 food and game stalls
run by family members of hospital staff and other vendors, he
said.
“All profits from the fair will go towards the upkeep
of the hospital. Many people are willing to help us raise funds
by selling food and goods,” he said. “The hospital
survives on the charity of well-wishers, which is why we hold
this fair every year.”
U Maung Maung said the fair also provides people with the chance
to meet old friends and celebrate the work they have done to support
the hospital.
He said the hospital will build the temporary stalls for food
sellers and games, and will also provide vendors with electricity
and water free of charge.
“Anyone interested is welcome to attend the fair,”
he said, adding that entrance is free of charge.
The 150-bed hospital was established in 1940 to provide free
healthcare to monks and nuns. However, laypeople are also treated
at minimal cost.
