MYANMAR’S national shooting team finished the 24th South
East Asian (SEA) Games with a medal tally of two gold medals,
two silvers and a bronze, bettering their performance at the 23rd
games, said a Myanmar Shooting Sport Federation official.
“We were very pleased with the team’s performance
because the Minster of Sport asked us to try to get two gold medals
and we did,” said U Kyaw Aye, coach and executive member
of the Federation.
Although most of the shooting teams that competed at the SEA
Games have gone to Kuwait to participate in the Asian Championships,
Myanmar’s contingent has returned home.
Ko Maung Kyu won a gold medal in the 10-metre air pistol category
on November 28 and said he is delighted with his achievement.
“Although I only won one gold medal, I’m pleased
because I broke Saya Gyi Bo Shu’s record,” he said.
The old record of 554 points has increased to 563.
Ma Than Than Saw, who picked up a gold medal in the 50m prone
rifle event, said calmness led to her success.
“I made sure every bullet I shot I was thinking about
how important it was for my team. After 60 shots, I knew my score
was over 580 but 592 points is the highest score I’ve ever
shot.”
