“Catching wild crabs has obvious restrictions for the future because this is a limited resource and if we over-exploit it we can destroy the whole fishery,”

The Energy and Renewable Resource Centre is the first of its kind in Myanmar. It will offer information on gas exploration and nuclear, renewable and alternative energy. It’s located at the society’s headquarters in Hlaing township, Yangon.

Mr Zhuang said the company began preparations to export sand in August last year. He said the company choose Mawlamyine instead of several destinations in Ayeyarwady Division because it was cheaper.

“Based on our study, the estates in Myanmar are projected to be self-financing in their fifth or sixth year of operation, thus enabling the group to easily finance the planting of additional new acreage,”

During his week-long India trip, U Kyaw Thu also held discussions with his Indian counterpart Shivshankar Menon, Foreign Secretary for External Affairs, on further strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.

“The other floors will be for the Gamone Pwint Shopping Centre and the Plaza. Our own department store will occupy the fourth and fifth floors and we’ll rent out the shop units for the plaza on the third floor from the middle of this month”

“The centre creates an opportunity for unemployed people to find jobs. We employ about 200 people including security guards,”

“The project is now 60pc complete,” said U Win Soe, a Mawlamyine resident, adding that those who relocated can buy cement and wood at a discounted government-set price.

HOUSE OF THE WEEK
The double kitchen is the main feature of the house. There is a ‘wet’ kitchen for preparing meat and vegetables as well as a ‘dry’ kitchen. Both are equipped with sinks, work surfaces, cupboards, cooker or hotplate and range hoods.

“Before we opened our Yangon embassy, pilgrims from Myanmar had to apply for Saudi visas in Bangkok or Dhaka, so now the process is much less complicated,”

“Sometimes vehicle owners don’t want to go through the trouble of applying for the licences themselves so they hire agents to do it. This is a mistake because the agents sometimes get fake licences instead of real ones,”

“Although eels and crabs are renewable resources that can be replenished through reproduction, overexploitation can lead to extinction. If too many are caught in the wild for export we might have to increase restrictions in the future,”

“While Myanmar has its University of Foreign Language, we have our Pusan Foreign Language University, where many South Koreans are studying the Myanmar language. It is a good sign for relations that people in both countries are interested in the other country’s language,”

“That’s why I don’t hesitate to mix, for example, a guitar and traditional drum ensembles,” said Diramore, who graduated from the University of Culture in 1997 with a BA (Music) and in 2006 was awarded a masters degree by the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.
