“Unfortunately some of these migrating workers can bring problems. Residents here are simple and honest but some people who come from the outside are not like them. They create problems at the beach and break the laws,”

Following the unveiling of the building’s signboard by General Thura Shwe Mann using a palm print scanner, the Minister for Communications, Post and Telegraphs, Brigadier General Thein Zaw, gave a presentation on investment in Yatanarpon cyber city.

“The population is already dense in suburban areas such as North Okkalapa, South Okkalapa and Thaketa townships, established in 1958, and in satellite cities such as North Dagon, South Dagon and Shwe Pyi Thar, which have been established since 1988,”

“Saudi Arabia warmly welcomes Myanmar’s exports because our people have a great demand for those products, especially since our nation does not produce products like rice and wheat,”

“The discussions covered all areas of mutual interest including bilateral, regional and international issues and were marked by the friendship and cordiality that mark relations between India and Myanmar as close neighbours,”

The statement said that in 2005 KOICA sent a team of volunteers to help the department repair existing lab equipment and electronic devices, and to train department personnel.

“Before we opened our Yangon embassy, pilgrims from Myanmar had to apply for Saudi visas in Bangkok or Dhaka, so now the process is much less complicated,”

“What I like about the singing is that those who were previously not on speaking terms usually restore their friendships while visiting each other’s houses during carolling. We give up our grudges,”

“Sometimes vehicle owners don’t want to go through the trouble of applying for the licences themselves so they hire agents to do it. This is a mistake because the agents sometimes get fake licences instead of real ones,”

“According to the traditions of Theravada Buddhism, I have to preserve this temple. This is the heritage of Myanmar. This is owned by the Myanmar people. So I decided to look after it,”

The papers, which were presented on December 21 and 22, were read by engineering experts, students and researchers who belonged to the society as well as those from outside the organisation.

“Although eels and crabs are renewable resources that can be replenished through reproduction, overexploitation can lead to extinction. If too many are caught in the wild for export we might have to increase restrictions in the future,”

“Shrimp farmers avoid pumping water in and out of their ponds as much as possible because pumping water from outside means inviting the risk of viruses for the shrimp,”

“While Myanmar has its University of Foreign Language, we have our Pusan Foreign Language University, where many South Koreans are studying the Myanmar language. It is a good sign for relations that people in both countries are interested in the other country’s language,”

“The five-day training will provide general health knowledge about subjects such as first aid and personal hygiene for nearly 30 people to help them teach these subjects at schools,”

“At this time of year the hotel is usually filled with local guests who are staying here to attend festivals. During rainy season we usually have gold and rubber traders,”

The Bagan and Inle Lake locations have a two-night/three-day Sweet December package available until December 31, which includes roundtrip airfares, daily breakfast and accommodation in a twin-share room and one dinner for two; the price is US$135 a person for foreigners and K135,000 a person for locals.

The ranking was the same as the previous edition two year’s ago in the Philippines, but rather than our track and field stars racing to podium, Myanmar this time performed best on the water (see page 34) with two gold coming from kayaking, two from canoeing and another three gold from traditional boat racing.

“The waves coming at us were big. They hit me in the chest and face while I was breathing in, so I had to skip two of my strokes. At that time, she (Naw Ah Le La Shee) had to paddle for the both of us,”
