THE government imposed a massive 166-fold increase last week on the fee for satellite TV licences, an official from Myanma Post and Telecommunications was reported as saying by AFP on January 2.

“This annual fee started from this year, 2008,” he said.

Renewing an existing licence for a satellite dish now costs K1 million, up from the previous price of K6000, while the fee for a new licence is now K2 million.
