Scholarships offered for Asian researchers

By Aung Shin

THE Asian Scholarship Foundation (ASF) is offering Asia Fellows Awards for scholars and professionals from Asian countries to help them carry out research projects.

The ASF website (www.asianscholarship.org) describes the awards as grants aimed at helping Asian scholars and professionals conduct research projects for periods of six to nine months in any of the participating countries except their own.

Scholars must have a master’s or doctoral degree, or the equivalent professional training, and a minimum of three years of university teaching experience. Professionals must have at least five years of work experience. All candidates must be under the age of 46 at the time of the application deadline.
Among the expenses covered by the awards are roundtrip airfare, a monthly living allowance covering housing and other expenses, limited accident and health insurance, field trip and language training allowance, research allowance and computer purchase.

At the end of the fellowship, fellows must submit to the ASF office in Bangkok evidence of the results of their research project in the form of publications, photos or artistic works, and audio and video productions.

The deadline for applications is January 11. Candidates will be interviewed in mid May in Bangkok, Beijing and Delhi and awardees will be notified in early July.
