STATE-RUN Myanma Insurance has paid third-party insurance compensation
to the families of each of the victims of a bus accident in Yangon’s
Hlaing Tharyar township that killed seven passengers and injured
10 earlier this month.
“The families of those who died in the accident will get
K100,000 in third-party insurance this week,” Dr Mg Maung
Thein, the general manager of Myanma Insurance, said last week.
The accident involved a collision between a city bus on the
Shwe Ei The line and a light truck carrying passengers on the
224 bus line near Aung Zeya Bridge.
“Most of the deaths and injuries were caused when the
light truck overturned on its left side,” said a spokesperson
from the Yangon Traffic Police Force.
Dr Mg Maung Thein said the Shwe Ei The bus line also carried comprehensive
motor insurance.
“If police determine that the collision was caused by
Shwe Ei The, each family of those who died in the accident will
also get K300,000 in comprehensive motor insurance compensation,”
he said.
The company will also pay compensation to the 10 people who
were hurt in the accident, according to the extent of their injuries,
he said.
Myanma Insurance has paid out more than K80 million in comprehensive
motor, third-party, travel, marine cargo and seamen life insurance
since the beginning of this year.
