A TEAM of healthcare specialists from the Women’s Section
of the Myanmar Medical Associa-tion’s Yangon branch provided
free medical treatment to more than 270 nuns at Thameiddawdaya
nun monastery in Kamaryut township on February 23.
The team consisted of 24 doctors, including general practitioners,
physicians, eye specialists, opticians, ear-nose-throat specialists,
physiotherapists, obstetric gynaecologists, dermato-logists and
dentists.
“Our team not only gave free treatment but also donated
some medicines that patients needed,” said Dr Khin Mar Aye,
the president of the Women’s Section.
Some nuns were also treated using massage machines and radiotherapy,
said Dr Khin Lay Gyi, a president-turned-patron of the section.
“The most common service we provided was eye treatments
because nuns spend a lot of time studying Buddhist lessons,”
she said.
Women specialists from the association usually arrange tours
twice a year to offer free medical treatment to locals and nun
monasteries in Yangon, Bago and Ayeyarwady divisions.
The MMA was founded in 1949, while the Women’s Section
of the Yangon branch was inaugurated in 1979.
