THE government enacted a law last week detailing procedures for the May referendum on whether to adopt a new constitution, and also appointed a commission to oversee the balloting, which it said would be free and fair.

A FLURRY of big waves slammed into Myanmar’s coast at Kyaukphyu township in Rakhine State last month, sweeping away 40 fishing boats but causing no injuries, said a spokesperson from the Kyaukphyu branch of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
 
HEARING-IMPAIRED students aiming to continue their education after primary school say they face a bundle of difficulties trying to keep up with other students in their studies, mostly because of communication barriers.

A FRIENDLY, non-competitive car rally will be held in April that will pass through Myanmar, China, Bangladesh and India and will feature participants from those countries, said an official from the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
 
The clinic, opened by the Theikdiwin Co., Ltd, on January 27 and being run with help from a local doctor, provides treatment and medicines for patients suffering from minor ailments and will refer those with serious health problems to government hospitals.
 
JAPAN provided US$62,628 under its grassroots grant assistance program for the purchase of equipment at a hospital in Mindat in Chin State, according to a statement released by the Japanese embassy in Yangon.
