King of the Ring to fight again next week

By Tin Moe Aung

FREEWEIGHT kickboxing champion Lone Chaw and the energetic Shwe Sai will fight on March 9 at Yangon’s Thuwunna Stadium.

The challenge will be accompanied by 10 other fights that start at 2pm.
Shwe Sai, the former champion is also a Kayin fighter. He became the champion in late 2004 after demolishing the defending champion, Wan Chai but lost his throne after being absent in the Golden Belt Championships in September 2006.

The two have already fought three times; all have ended in draws, although the last was is 2006.

“This is their fourth encounter and will probably a big grudge match,” said the bout organiser, U Sai Zaw Zaw.

“The fight will be very interesting because their last fight was tough – Lone Chaw had to call for a two-minute break in the first round but fought back extremely hard in the last three rounds. If it had gone on any longer I think Shwe Sai was likely to lose the fight,” U Sai Sai Zaw Zaw said.

“Their last fight was one of the best fights I’ve seen and hopefully this time there will be a clear result,” he said.

However, for Lone Chaw it will likely be another gruelling encounter and he’s barely had time to recover from his last fight, with only a 15-day break between the two.

But U Sai Sai Zaw Zaw said Lone Chaw was in good condition for the coming fight.

“I’ve already negotiated with Lone Chaw’s coach and he said everything is alright,” he said.

“Both of these guys are experienced fighters, are the same age and weigh about the same. I hope they will provide an exciting bout for the fans,” he added.
