THE New World training centre for disabled children was opened in Mayangone township in Yangon on March 9 by Parami Technical Medicine Services Company Limited.

 
“Taungoo is the only place where tourists can get good accommodation on the Yangon-Mandalay road,” she said. “It’s just a one hour, 15 minute drive from Nay Pyi Taw and a four hour drive from Yangon.”

A HIGHWAY bus running on the Yangon-Mandalay-Pyin Oo Lwin-Lashio route caught fire in the early morning of March 1 near Pyin Oo Lwin, destroying the bus but causing no injuries to passengers, according to a source from the Ministry of Rail Transportation.

THE embassy of Japan has called for local students of the Japanese language to take part in the National Japanese Speech Contest 2008, which will be held at Chatrium Hotel (formerly Hotel Nikko Royal Lake) in Yangon on May 24 from 9am to 1pm.
 
“We hope to get 900 students in the coming years as more parents become interested in our education system, which is based on US school curricula,” said Mr Travers.

A FAMOUS puppeteer from Myanmar, U Ye Dwe, has been invited to attend the 20th Union Internationale de la Marionnette (UNIMA) Congress and World Puppetry Festival, which will be held in Perth, Australia, from April 2 to 12.
 
A MASS ordination and novitiation ceremony (shinpyu) will be held under the supervision of Pauktaw Tawya monastery in Pauktaw village, Beelin township, in Mon State on March 23.

EYE experts from North America representing ORBIS International, a non-profit global development organisation, perform eye surgery at Mandalay Eye and ENT Hospital earlier this month. The experts conducted their ninth Flying Eye Hospital program in Myanmar from February 25 to March 7, during which they performed about 70 eye and laser surgeries and provided training to about 50 local ophthalmologists. With the help of ORBIS, which has been working in the country since 1991, Myanmar established an eye bank in 1994 and is now a member of the international Federation of Eye and Tissue Banks.
