One of Myanmar’s best-known photographers, Zaw Min Yu, will feature examples of his work, including the above photo of a hermit (Ba Yathei) near Bagan, at his new studio and gallery complex on March 29. Located at 98 Inya Road, the opening will also feature the launch of Zaw Min Yu’s seventh photography book, titled Alingar.

THE acting United Nations resident coordinator in Myanmar, Mr Daniel Baker, stressed the importance of promoting cooperation between the government and UN agencies working in Myanmar, as the world body plans to increase development assistance to the country.

 

THE Nay Pyi Taw Division Traffic Rules Enforcement Committee passed a rule last month stipulating that motorcycle riders must wear helmets conforming to fixed safety standards.

 
A LOCAL non-government organisation called Charity-Oriented Myanmar will provide funding for educational programs at the Karmar Kasi monastic school in Dala township, Yangon Division, during the 2008-2009 academic year, said Chan Nyein Aung, the president of the organisation.
 

“Between 1000 and 1500 taxis already have the meters. Although this is more than half the number of taxis that are supposed to have meters by this time, we want the rest of them to get the devices as soon as possible,”

MYANMAR’S second FM radio station, Mandalay FM, is set to start broadcasting on April 3, said U Latt Myint Thein, the head of the Public Relations and Information Department of the Mandalay City Development Committee (MCDC).

 

“The Ministry of Religious Affairs has conferred titles on three candidates from Sri Lanka and one each from India, Thailand and Laos, as well as hundreds from Myanmar,”

SHIN Satellite Corporation’s latest US$5 million contract with the government-run Myanmar Post and Tele-communication Enterprise (MPT) has more than doubled the country’s telecoms capacity, said Chalermkiet Limrattanakul, the company’s regional manager on March 12.

 
A FEASIBILITY study that will pave the way for the construction of seven mega-hydropower projects in Northern Myanmar is expected to be finished by the end of 2008, said an energy expert close to the Ministry of Electric Power (1) on March 18.
 

“Many houses in Yangon are all about looks but designing a house is about much more than fashion. There are important issues such as space, function, safety and comfort that must be considered,”......

 
He found the job tiring at first but got used to it very soon. “When we first do this, my whole body from head to toe hurt so much. But day by day, my body came into shape. Now, I don’t have any trouble with the physical strain.”

REIGNING Myanmar League champion Customs successfully retained their title by defeating Defense 2-1 at Yangon’s Thuwunna Stadium on March 20. The title defence came as no surprise.
