Word On The Street
with Khay Mi Ko

By Zon Pann Pwint

How did you become a singer and dancer?
In 1999, I got in touch with Nasa music productions and that is how I started my career as a singer. They gave me my first real break. I have loved to dance and sing at the top of my voice ever since I was young – it has been such a passion of mine for a long time now. I vividly recall singing in the shower. These days, of course, dancing is quite popular amongst the youth. I like to spend my time with my friends doing a bit of boogie woogie. It is good training fpr my shows.

How many albums have you released so far?
I’ve released one solo album and have featured on four group albums.

Which one of the two do you prefer, dancing or singing?
I have a hot spot for both; there is more of a back and forth relationship between the two. We have to dance to the music. Basically I see both as part of my peformance role.

Who taught you dancing?
Mr. Ricky T and Mr Bransi. They have been wonderful teachers.

What sort of music do you like?
I like Hip Hop, R&B and Latino music. Of course Pop is the main genre we can fit these sounds into.

What aspirations do you have as an entertainer?
I always try my best but I do not push myself in trying to become a famous dancer. I used to perform mostly in entertainment programmes. That’s why I am recognized by audiences. I hope to continue improving in the industry and putting on great shows for the fans.

Were any of your family members in the entertainmant industry?
No, none of them were. Well, actually one of my parents is a magician. But I am not sure if thats what you are looking
for.

What kind of dress do you like?
It depends on the music, if I dance to pop music; I wear pop style clothing – loud and proud. If it’s Latino music, I dress in Latino style and embrace the role.

Is there any bad habit in you that you would want to change?
Well I guess the thing that really bothers me is how angry, how dissapointed, I can get with myself if i don't perform well. I try to remain calm but at times i cant help but get angry. Therefore I would like to change this if I could.

What was your childhood ambition?
I always wanted to be a singer. I have always loved listenijmnig to singers in both Myanmar and abroad and practised as a child all the time. I am rather content with my job at the moment because I have achieved this ambition already. I am a singer.

Where will you be during the water festival?
I will be in Mandalay getting really, really wet. I am really looking forward to the New Year holiday. It is always so much fun.
