Chief of Staff (News) – Senior Editorial Position – The Myanmar Times

 

 

This is a senior position within the company and has the following responsibilities:

• Management of the news diary and allocation of reporting assignments to the 70-strong newsroom.
• Liaison between editors, sub editors and reporters;
• Ensuring reporters keep to their assigned rounds and editorial deadlines through regular meetings and discussions.
• Being the go-to person for people in the newsroom – someone to serve as the link between reporters and the senior management of the company.
• Being a key person to improve the work culture inside the newsroom:

 

The person we are seeking should have the following skills and qualifications:

• An appropriate tertiary qualification and/or a minimum of 10 years, experience in a management position;
• Knowledge and experience in a publishing environment is essential;
• A strong network in business, diplomatic and political circles is mandatory;
• Strong written and verbal skills in English and Myanmar languages;
• Computer literacy with Microsoft products;
• First class interpersonal skills and a proven ability to mediate on day-to-day issues.

     
 

Head Photographer
The Myanmar Times

To direct and oversee a photographic team of five. The applicant should be a professional photographer with extensive exposure to news publishing. Must have a keen eye for detail and be able to capture the essence of news photography with digital capacity. Strong computer skills are necessary and budgetary and management experience.

Sub Editors
The Myanmar Times (Myanmar)

To work inside a core team of sub editors your role is to re-write and edit copy from our newsroom. You must be an accomplished sub editor with a flair for fast and accurate re-working of material. You will need to be able to use a Myanmar keyboard and be proficient with a Windows environment.

Reporter
Now! Magazine

To write clearly and concisely in Myanmar language for our weekly lifestyle A4 magazine. If you have a passion for fashion and beauty issues in Myanmar this is the job for you. The reporter will also be writing on celebrities and be able to turn out quality feature-length copy. Must have a minimum of two years experience. English language skills strongly desired.

Advertising and Marketing representatives – Senior & Junior roles

We are looking for enthusiastic, energetic and motivated sales professionals to join our team. Senior Reporter (Tourism Sector)

This is a role for someone who has first class contacts within the hospitality and tourism sector and has the ability to write both news and feature material. Fluency in the English language is essential as is the ability to be a self-starter. A minimum of three years journalism experience is required. The successful applicant has strong opportunity to travel throughout Myanmar and to offshore tourism related events. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Reporters

You will be assigned into the general newsroom and will answer directly to sectional editors, the chief of staff and ultimately to the editor in charge. We are accepting applications from journalists with one to five years experience. You must be able to write proficiently in Myanmar language, but skills in English will be highly regarded in addition to a well-honed network in business, politics, or the government bureaucracy. Computer skills are essential.

Socialite Columnist – Senior PR role
Model/Beauty/Fashion background

You must be a well-known face in the local community and exceptionally well groomed and presented. Our ‘Socialite’ will be required to be the face of the company at social events, fashion shows, diplomatic functions, music and lifestyle events. Previous experience as a well-known model or media personality is essential. The successful applicant must have an outward-looking personality and be at ease in front of the camera and to able direct a photographer. No previous writing experience is required, but will be highly regarded. This is a part time or fulltime position. Remuneration will be negotiated subject to experience and maturity.

 

Expatriate Sales & Marketing Consultant
