AN ACCIDENTAL fire sparked by an overheating transformer damaged one house and caused K1.55 million in damage on Lanmadaw Road in Yangon on March 21, officials from Yangon Division Fire Brigade Department said.
 
MYANMAR and its partners in the Southeast Asia Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) have signed an memorandum of understanding aimed at reducing the numbers of illiterate children in Southeast Asia.

THE government of South Korea is seeking qualified candidates from Myanmar to apply for full scholarships for undergraduate studies at higher education institutions in that country, according to a press release from the South Korean embassy in Yangon.
 
A GRADUATION ceremony was held for students from the State School of Fine Arts and the State School of Music and Drama, at the National Theatre in Dagon township in Yangon on March 24, said Daw Mu Mu Khin, the principal of the Music and Drama school.
 
“The aim of introducing meters is so officers, staff members and others can travel around the area easily and conveniently,” U Than Zaw, the CEO of Max Myanmar, said at the launch ceremony, held at the headquarters of the company’s Nay Pyi Taw Taxi and Car Rental Service in Thapyaykon Market.
 
“When we donated an oxygen concentrator to the hospital in November 2007, we planned to donate this machine too,” said Ko Aung Myo Thu, the leader of the charity, which is called the Online Donation Group.
 
A NEW library will open in Pyapon township in Ayeyarwady Division on April 5 to commemorate the 100th birthday of Saya Zawgyi, a famous writer who passed away nearly two decades ago, according to a statement released by the executive committee for library opening ceremony.
 
“There is no such thing as a special celebration. Of course it is a very special moment and I do feel honoured,” Dr Britz told The Myanmar Times by email. “I collected this species during my 2003 trip a little upstream from Monywa on the Chindwin River,”

FORESTRY have narrowly avoided relegation from the Myanmar League thanks to a 2-1 victory over Ministry of Energy in the final game of the season at Yangon’s Thuwunna Stadium.
