MYANMAR Airways International said last week that it was temporarily suspending service on its Yangon-Bangkok and Yangon-Kuala Lumpur routes while it awaits the arrival of new aircraft.
“We want to provide service using new aircraft, so we suspended our Yangon-Bangkok and Yangon-Kuala Lumpur routes starting from April 24,” MAI marketing executive Ma Aye Mra Thar told The Myanmar Times last week. “We'll resume our regular service to Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok at the end of May after the new aircraft arrive."
She said those who had already booked flights on MAI for Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur would have their tickets transferred to other international airlines.
The airline had previously suspended its flights to Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur last October due to insurance issues, and had resumed on January 15 following the purchase of an Airbus A319 aircraft.
Service between Yangon and Singapore onboard flights run by MAI’s code-share partner Jetstar will continue to be offered four days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday) as usual, Ma Aye Mra Thar said.
