A GROUP of Master of Business Administration (MBA) graduates
last week formed a charity group – Myanmar Business Executives
– to implement a micro-credit project for Nargis victims,
said U Zaw Naing, a representative of the group.
He said the objective was to channel financial and other forms
of assistance from individual and group donors to the victims
of the deadly cyclone.
“Our group will focus on the rehabilitation process, which
is the weakest stage in disaster relief,” U Zaw Naing said,
adding that the group is now collecting funds from different sources.
He added that group members were contributing their own personal
capital to the fund, and would begin operations once they had
received the necessary funds.
The two-year, K500-million project will be carried out in Hlaing
Tharyar and Ywa Thargyi in Dagon Myothit township, he added.
Each household would receive an interest-free loan averaging
K200,000 for housing resettlement. About 1500 households –
500 in Hlaing Tharyar and 1000 in Ywa Thargyi – are expected
to receive loans.
“After the project period, we’ll use the loan repayments
for development in Nargis-affected areas,” he said, adding
that the group would also accept donations in kind for Nargis
victims.
