YMCA to help elderly rebuild

THE Young Men’s Christians Association (YMCA) will repair or rebuild the houses of some elderly people in Hlaing Tharyar and Insein townships, said the association’s general secretary, U Tha Nyan, last week.
He said the association is limiting assistance to those 70 years old or older, whose houses were damaged or destroyed during the cyclone.
“We started work last week in Hlaing Tharyar township and we’re fully aware that there are lots of elderly people in this area that need urgent help to rebuild or repair their houses because many do not have the funds to pay labourers to do this work,” he said.
He said the YMCA is cooperating with the Department of Social Welfare and World Vision’s Help Age program.
Also helping out is the famous film-making company, Ko Lu Chaw Group, which U Tha Nyan said will provide labour, while the YMCA will provide the funding. – Kyaw Hsu Mon
