“Twenty years ago there was what you can refer to as the ‘truck and chuck’ principal, where you drive in with a pile of food and you throw it out of the back of the truck and you walk away and you say, ‘There we go. That village is sorted’,”

“I think if we ignore that requirement we are going to be in a situation where a year or a year and a half from now some of these people will still be depending on relief items,”

“We have seen areas very difficult to get to physically, where very few people have been,” team leader Mr Albert Lieberg was quoted as saying in the report.

“Two days ago the headmaster invited us to the foundation laying ceremony of the new school building. So here we are,” said Daw Naw Muu Phaw, whose two children attend the school.

“About 400 kilograms (880 pounds) of timber are needed to build each boat and the government will supply this. Boat builders from across the country will be contracted by the federation to build these boats in the shortest possible period,”

“So far transportation is operating as usual and rice is coming on to the market regularly from the regions that weren’t affected by the storm,”

“Because of the different designs available, contemporary structures are convenient for every-thing from homes and shops to office buildings, and they get more attention from people,”

“I wanted to do something that involves a lot of children. One child’s art can give another child happiness and joy. Art…can be more than just putting a few strokes to paper. It can also put a smile on a child’s face.”

The concert, held on June 14, featured more than 30 acts, including headliners Zaw Win Htut, J Me, Big Bag, The Ants, Aung Yin, Chit Thu Wai, L Lon War, Myo Myo, Sone Thin Par, Than Thar Win, Shin Pone and Zaw Pai.
