Birthday book released

Former Editor-in-Chief of Shwe Amutae magazine, U Win Nyein, has released a book of short stories titled Shwe 62, to mark his 62nd birthday. The book is published by Gantkaw Wutyee and is a collection of stories from 62 Myanmar writers. You can find it at all good book stores.

MMA donation

A big concert to raise funds for victims of last month’s cyclone was held at Ba Htoo stadium in Mandalay on June 7, with about 30 famous singers in attendance.
The concert raised a massive K20,900,000, according to song-writer Maung Thit Minn, joint secretary 3 of the Myanmar Music Association (central).
“We will donate K20,000,000 worth of food supplies to cyclone affected people at Mawkyun, which donors are finding hard to reach,” he said.
A group of MMA members and about 80 performers will depart by two-storey ship on June 24 from Yangon, carrying supplies for the cyclone victims.

Art exhibition

Local artist Zaw Mong will be holding a solo art exhibition at Thamada Art Exhibition Hall (Thamada Hotel, corner of Yawmingyi Street and Alanpya Pagoda Road) on the weekend of July 5-6.
The exhibition will feature works of his beloved Yangon before it was hit by the cyclone — scenes you may never see again.
The exhibition will be open from 9am-4pm both days.
