IT’S often said that first impressions count and that would be unfortunate for anyone considering this recently renovated two-storey house in Yankin township.

The façade is busy and features diagonal rows grey and white tiles, a white-tiled balcony with pink pillars, reflective-glass arch windows, a top section of wood panelling and even a sandstone and slate panel. It’s a scattergun approach and a shame because the rest of the 1539-square-foot compound is tidy and functional.

Most of the compound is consumed by the house but room has been saved to fit a car alongside the front entrance. Covering both the door and the car park is a blue tin roof.

Inside, the living room is furnished with dark leather sofas, a television and wood parquet floors. It’s an attractive and comfortable room, except for the ugly olive-green curtains.

A large wooden wardrobe separates the living room from a single bedroom.
The kitchen, laundry and dining rooms sit at the back of the house and there’s a washing machine and refrigerator. Next to the kitchen there is also a small bathroom and shower.

The stairway is also darkly coloured wood and closely matches that used in both downstairs and upstairs living rooms, although upstairs it’s used in long planks, not parquet. The upper living room is bright, open, has windows on three sides and also an air-conditioner. Wood panelling separates it from the master and single bedrooms at the back of the house.

The furnished master bedroom is on the small but comfortable size and has an air-conditioner and hot water system in the bathroom Alongside is a small single bedroom that could easily be used as a study.

A tube well supplies water and the house comes with one electricity meter. Furniture is not included in the event of sale but will be included for rentals.

A smooth lane leads from the house onto Aung Zaya Road, where it’s easy to hail a cab and there are nearby food vendors too.
