FISHERIES exports are expected to recover from Cyclone Nargis by August or September and may exceed last year’s total exports, a Department of Fisheries (DOF) official told The Myanmar Times last week.

“We have to rely on diesel to run the machines, such as motors for paddlewheels, at our shrimp farms while other countries like Thai-land and Vietnam have electricity at their farms,”

THE Online Donation Group and Myanmar Marketing Association have started work on a project to build about 40 bamboo houses for homeless families in cyclone-affected areas, said a spokesperson for the Online Donation Group earlier this month.

THE Myanmar Engineering Society (MES) will introduce new building technology to assist in the construction of long-lasting, low-cost houses in the cyclone-hit Dedaye Township, MES president U Than Myint announced last week.

“The total construction period will be one year and four months and the initial earthmoving works for the construction will begin in the next two months," Father Land Construction spokesperson Daw Hla Kay Thwe said.

HOUSE OF THE WEEK
The kitchen is one of the features of the house with wet and dry areas to ensure good food hygiene. It’s big enough – about 25 feet long – to allow you to cook up a storm when guests drop by.

In the wake of Nargis the association quickly determined that 172 of its members in Yangon and Ayeyarwady divisions had been affected by the cyclone. They were each given K30,000 worth of relief goods and K10,000 in cash.

“As far as I’m concerned, these young people are crazier in music compared with the older generation. They are patient, gentle and dedicated to music, all necessary qualities to become a musician. That’s why this young generation can make their dreams come true.”

Whilst Zaw Wate has been careful to include a few famous spicy dishes in the menus, mostly from Sichuan, the majority of the dishes are based on food from Guangdong province. As such, the dishes are not too hot and are more likely to appeal to the wider clientele the restaurant is trying to attract.
