INDIA and Myanma Post and Telecommunications have announced plans
to build 11 IT skills enhancement centres later this year, said
a spokesperson from the enterprise’s information technology
department.
He said the plan is likely to cost about US$6 million, however,
he said he is not sure what the eventual price tag for the project
will be.
Yangon, Mandalay, Pyin Oo Lwin, Magway, Taungnyo and Taungdwingyi
(Magway Division) have been slated as likely destinations and
most of the centres will be built at higher educational facilities,”
he said.
The project follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed in
December 2007 and will be fully funded by India through that nation’s
Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, he added.
“The project is aimed at developing and deepening the
human resource pool in the IT industry,” he said.
“We expect to build these IT centres later this year and
they will begin operating next year,” he said, adding that
the site surveys have already been completed.
He added that Myanmar has already sent 100 government workers,
in two intakes, to six-month training and maintenance courses
in early 2008.
These centres will offer at least 11 different courses –
including one on medical video conferencing – at the centres.
