“We have offices in many parts of the country and these have been our strength. We are applying that strength to the post-Nargis situation, principally by helping people regain their livelihoods and stand on their own feet, and by helping them increase their incomes and maintain their human dignity,”

“Although there are offices in five townships, the office volunteers will also go to neighbouring townships to carry out MRCS work and register orphaned children,”

“They used many approaches to revive tourism, such as offering discounts on accommodation and airfares with the aim of drawing more visitors. They also used international media coverage to develop a positive image of their country,”

All occurrences of bird flu in Myanmar have been blamed by the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department on infections carried into the country by migratory birds.
“Malaria is not common in Ayeyarwady and Yangon divisions. Ayeyarwady hotspots normally include Ngapudaw and Tharpaung, while Hmawbi, Hlegu and Taikkyi in Yangon Division also see some cases,”

“Our hospital survives on the charity of the well-wishers, and we appreciate cash donations and material equipment from local and foreign countries, and medical service from experienced doctors,”

“Some of the children said they could sometimes hear people’s voices after only one or two treatments. Some said they could also hear telephones ringing,”

“The whole area is like a circus with dances, music, magic shows, fortune tellers and tattoo shops. The first time I went there, it seemed like a different world to me,”

“The campus cannot be accomplished by IIA alone and it needs the helping hand of all well-wishers and dhamma friends to build this institute and contribute to the higher teachings of Buddha, in English, in the world,”

“It will be raised off the ground a little further than our current model and will offer more comfort. It will be able to accommodate between four and six passengers,”

“As soon as private sector rice exports were allowed, the demand for containers and vessels soared, which meant there was even less space for other exports such as beans and pulses,”

“We understand that farmers are the first priority because the planting season is limited, but we need fishing equipment very soon for our own survival,”

“It took only three months to organise this exhibition. As I have travelled throughout the country many times, I have taken photos wherever I am. So through these photos, you can see a lot of scenes and views from many beautiful places in Myanmar,”

Six years in the making, Ah Boy is finally ready to release his first solo album Tayoutetan (Chinatown) on August 3. The album includes collaborations with 18 singers, including Tun Tun (Example), Kyo Kyar and Cindy. Timeout had a quick chat with the hip hop star and his pop singer wife, Cindy, at the album launch.

“I always do the best I can when I’m in the ring with whoever is challenging me. I know that I’ve been called ‘Lone Chaw, the Draw’ by some fans as a result of my long run of drawn results but this time I’ve come away with a clear result – and I’m quite happy for that,”

In the sixth minute Nepal’s Bijoy struck a fierce shot which was well stopped by goalkeeper Aung Aung Oo. And striker Santosh broke free on the right wing and was almost through for a crack at goal but the referee ruined the play, legitimately, by raising the flag for offside.
