THIS three-bedroom, single-storey detached house in Thingangyun township is nearly perfect for anyone seeking a maintenance-free lifestyle: There are easy-to-clean tiles nearly everywhere and no lawn or garden.

It’s a three-year-old house, with a 60-year lease and sits within a 2400-square-foot concrete compound in a laneway just off Waizayandar Road.

At the front of the compound are an iron fence and big sliding gate, while the façade consists of glazed tiles, two Roman pillars and reflective glass windows. These same windows do allow plenty of filtered light into the living room, which has an easy-to-clean wood parquet floor. Alongside is a master bedroom with in-built ensuite bathroom and air-conditioner to keep everything cool.

At the back of the house there are two single bedrooms.

All three bedrooms have the same parquet flooring as that used in the living room, which is not a bad thing considering it’s not unattractive and is wildly easy to maintain.

The dining room marks something of a flooring departure and employs dark red tiles that clash with the rest of the house. The plywood partitioning around the dining room is also disrupting, though it does do its job of separating the bathroom and toilet at the back of the house.

The smallish but workman-like kitchen occupies the back-left corner and is – unsurprisingly – covered with tiles. But there’s plenty of bench space for food preparation and cupboards for storage. Out back there is a water tank and the tube-well. One telephone line and electricity meter are included with the house.
