THE Myanmar Photographic Society (MPS) has invited photographers
to submit their work to a nationwide mid-year photo contest to
be held in September.
The secretary of the association, U Aung Tun Win, said the contest
will be held with no categories, so different types of photographs
– colour, black and white, digital, film – will be
in competition with one another.
“There are only a few big photo contests in Myanmar. There
are local monthly and annual contests but we will organise bigger
competitions twice a year,” he said.
He said the goal of the contest was to promote Myanmar photography.
“Many young people are becoming interested in photography
and more outstanding photographers are cropping up. Our association
wants to give them the opportunity to gain experience by submitting
their work to more big contests,” he said.
Each participant can submit up to five prints ranging in size
from 10x12 to 10x15 inches. Prizes will be given for first, second
and third place. However, no digitally altered images will be
accepted.
“Judging the contest will drive us mad because we will
have to choose winners from among a variety of different styles,
ideas, creations and views. But it will be a good experience for
all of us,” the secretary said.
Photographs must be submitted to the MPS office on 35th Street
in downtown Yangon by August 29.
