Word On The Street with Chit Thu Wai

By Yadana Htun

WITH new TV advertisements, singer and actress Chit Thu Wai is getting a lot of attention from all ages at the moment. The star and her sister Chit Su Wai have also finalised their second album ready for release soon. Timeout visited the star at home to talk about her success.

Timeout: Your vocal style is quite different from other female singers, how satisfied are you with it?
Chit Thu Wai: My voice is a blessing from God though I can’t sing high pitch or sweetly like most of the female singers. But luckily, the genres I like: punk rock, alternative and slow rock suit my voice well.

Your original background is in singing, what do you find difficult about acting?
I sometimes feel tired if I have to cry for some scenes and my moods are always changing. I like to act a character one day but I may change to another character tomorrow. I’m always happy to act new characters.

What is the secret of your cute look?
Normally, I wear make up naturally and do it by myself. I don’t like putting on thick make-up. But if I have appointments for magazines, I usually go to make-up artists.

What is your definition of real love and marriage?
Real love needs faith, under-standing and a will to keep the relationship strong. In marriage, there are many disagreements to overcome because it’s a life of two strangers.

What sacrifices have you had to make in balancing your singing, acting and career in paediatrics?
Since I was young I have been so focused on what I have been doing that I haven’t had much free time. So I haven’t spent time in youth activities like others.

What have you learnt from your different careers?
I’ve learnt a lot. Once I was a naïve girl and didn’t know much about people. As I have been getting deeper into my work-life, I have begun to understand more and more about human nature. I think I am more mature than in the past and I can accept whatever happens to me with a positive approach.

Who helps you wish fashion?
I like to choose clothes on my own. My father ran a fashion shop at Bogyoke Market in the past so I’m really crazy about clothing. My previous styles have been very chaotic but I now wear clothes that make me feel relaxed and comfortable. But I have started to take care of my look more than usual because I want to be a little bit more beautiful as I’m getting old.

Do you think there are any differences between a celebrity’s love life and that of an ordinary woman? How do you feel about love?
I don’t know about other people’s love lives. I’m now 24 and I have been standing on my own two feet for my whole life so I don’t want to depend on others and trouble them. I place more and more restrictions on love and I think a lot first before I love. As far as I can see, most people love without knowing what love is. I don’t want to try this. There is one thing I believe: that no one can love and understand me like my family… It’s a kind of happiness that the one who loves you is right beside you. Of course, I want this kind of happiness.

Do you think your childhood dreams have come true?
Absolutely not. When I was young, I had many dreams. I believed that the cartoon characters would become alive one day and I could play with them. And I wished I could swim in a jelly pool and suck them through a straw. And I also wanted to be in a fruit barn eating fruits and sitting on a sling chair without worries.

You were living in your dream land. So, what does your actual life feel like?
Real life isn’t easy and can be really tough. If I could do as I wish, I would live peacefully with the ones I love.

Do you take good care of yourself?
Emotionally, I can become strongly attached to people. I know it’s not good so I always remind myself not to feel too strongly. Physically, I get sick easily.

What do you think of interviews?
I’m happy to meet people at interviews. I can speak to my fans through interviews. Some interviewers have really disturbed me but I’ve forgiven them.
