A PHOTO exhibition has brought in K2 million for victims of cyclone Nargis. The exhibition, held by the Myanmar Photographic Society, took place from August 16 to 18 at the Grand Mee Ya Hta Executive Residences at Yangon.
“We received K2 million from selling 44 photographs. We will soon hand this over to the Myanmar Red Cross Society for Nargis-affected people,” said U Aung Tun Win, the secretary of the photographic society.
The three-day exhibition displayed 204 photographs taken by 51 photographers.
Famous photographers like Nyaung U Phoe Cho, Htin Linn, Moe Minn, U Maung Maung Thaung exhibited their work alongside the work of beginners.
“Most of the buyers were tourists looking for scenic photographs. The exhibition featured scenes from the northern and southern parts of Myanmar,” he said.
U Aung Tun Win added that it was the first time many of these photographers’ work could be seen in one place, though there had been many solo and group exhibitions.
The photos were priced at K50,000 each but donors were welcome to contribute more.
Canon, Kodak and the Grand Mee Ya Hta Residences sponsored the exhibition.
