It is estimated that there are about 120,000 Myanmar living in Singapore for employment and education. According to the industry, more than 3000 students go each year to Singapore for studies through agencies. There are currently about 86,000 international students in Singapore, including Myanmar students, as Singapore is widely regarded as an ideal destination for education.

Daw May Shin also made a career from singing and was famous for her soft, bewitching voice that enraptured audiences. Many of her songs are still popular today and some have been remixed by young hip-hop performers.

Lieutenant Colonel Tin Myint (retired) said submissions for the contest, which is being held for the first time in the society’s 58-year existence, will be accepted only from members of the society aged 60 years or older.
 
A five-person team led by orchidologist and plant tissue culturist Dr Saw Lwin, also a central executive committee member of the association, has started researching ferns naturally growing in the 380-acre National Kandawgyi Garden, to ensure that Myanmar develops its own records on ferns.
 
The 17-member Myanmar delegation, led by U Hla Maung, arrived in Imphal on September 3 on a reciprocal visit following the visit of a trade delegation from Manipur to Mandalay last April. The signing of the joint declaration, with Manipur State Economic Minister Sri Y Erabut Singh, came at the end of the visit,
 
“Normally, any party interested in such a deal has to contact the ministry first. The Indian side only informed our department in the second week of September, stating that an Indian delegation would be coming soon but has not yet set a specific date,”

Under the front portico there’s a suitably intimidating hardwood double door that opens into a living room with that has a mix of comfortable and retina-searing couches. Next is a dining room with a long oval table that could easily seat eight guests. Serving the dining room is a heavy duty kitchen with a world of storage space and a central table for preparing dishes.
 

Ms Yukiko Kyi dressed her models in a variety of contemporary designs inspired by ethnic clothes, which make use of traditional woven fabrics. This was Ms Yukiko Kyi’s first fashion show and she hopes to take her ethnic Myanmar designs oversees. Her clothes are branded “stylish ethno”.

 

AVID watchers of TV will no doubt know Phoo Myat Thwe from her performances in the training programs broadcast on MRTV on ethics and morals. As you can imagine, Time out was a little surprised to see her walking down the catwalk at a recent show held in Yangon. With her second prize in the Miss Now How 2007 competition, Phoo Myat Thwe has evidently grown up. Time out caught up with the 19-year old to quiz her about her new appearance and goals.

 
“There are always some barriers that kind of deter you from choosing to be an artist as a career. It’s not a high earning job and not everyone can be a successful artist, so it was a risky decision for me to make.
