THE creation of a documentary movie about S N Goenka, a leading teacher of Vipassana (insight) meditation, is well underway, with about 60 percent of the taping complete, said an official from the Dhamma Joti Vipassana Meditation Centre.
 
One of the most revered sacred sites in the country is Alaungdaw Kathapa – literally, that which sustains and purifies the sasana (message of the Buddha) and where the dispensation, doctrine and legacy of the Buddha are expounded.
 

The city of Inwa, which was formerly known as Ava in the colonial era, is 17 kilometres (11 miles) south of Mandalay. The name itself means “mouth of the lake” and Inwa lies at the confluence of the Myitnge and Ayeyarwady Rivers – Kipling’s “Road to Mandalay”.

YANGON – Nearly all the rice fields in Myanmar’s Ayeyarwady delta that were devastated by Cyclone Nargis in May have been replanted, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) said last week.

 

“We assigned prices to the detached houses depending on their location within the development and how big they are. Those houses alongside the road are most in demand and have commanded the highest prices; there are only two of these left,”
 
“Thanaka has been used traditionally for hundreds of years. People used to wear thanaka combined with fragrance on special occasions. When we were young, cosmetics were not popular like they are nowadays,”
