Oktoberfest at Savoy Hotel

Savoy Hotel will be holding a special Oktoberfest event from October 17 to 19. Though lederhosen may be difficult to find on the local market you can still enjoy the festival in style with three different types of beer on offer and a buffet featuring traditional Bavarian food such as Weisswurst, Leberkaes and Sauerkraut. Beer is available in half litre glasses or special one litre “mass” glasses for those too lazy to make multiple trips to the bar. The Friday and Saturday evenings are expected to be the busiest. Artist Muu Muu to hold an exhibition

Artist Muu Muu, 53, will hold an exhibition of his works entitled “Mon Khine Works (2)” at Hinnthar Art Gallery, No.42 Inyamyaing Road, Golden Valley Ward, Bahan township, Yangon from October 11 to 18, between 9am and 5pm.
The artist has been painting since 1976 and has taken part in many exhibitions, including in foreign countries such as Singapore and Thailand.

Rock concert at Kandawgyi Park

Rock stars Myo Gyi, Wine Wine, Maung Maung Zaw Latt, R Zarni, Naw Naw, Sone Thin Par and Khin Phone will perform a stage show on October 14 at Hmyaw Sin Island, Karaweik Oo Yin Kabar, Kandawgyi Park. The concert will start at 6.30pm. Tickets are available at Ko Ko beauty salon (La Pyae Wun Plaza), Dagon Center and No (9) Sanya San road and cost K4500 each.

Applicants invited to participate in Finest Couple wedding contest

If you think you’re a bit of a hottie, why not enter the Finest Couple contest? Excellent photo studio is hosting the contest, and will provide an attractive wedding dress. Application forms are available at every Excellent photo studio in Yangon. The closing date for applications is October 25.
Any single aged between 18 and 25 is welcome to participate. Participants can compete wearing any style of wedding dress whether it is European or traditional Myanmar or ethnic. If the participants cannot find partners the photo studio will be happy to match people up.
The couple who win the prize will be awarded K400,000, with a second prize of K200,000 and a third prize of K100,000. Winning couples will have their photo taken for the 2009 calendar, poster, pamphlet and billboard campaigns.
Older married couples can also compete as part of the Silver Jubilee contest provided their wedding ceremony was held 25 years ago. There will also be a Golden Jubilee contest for those who married 50 years ago. Couples must wear the same wedding clothes they wore at their wedding.
“This is the second time that the Excellent photo studio has organised a contest, the number of people who came to apply was higher than expected last year, one girl who won first prize last year is performing in films,” added the spokesperson.

Established Mandalay artists exhibit paintings at AZADA art gallery

An art exhibition entitled “AZADA art Myanmar” is being held from October 5 to November 2 at the Azada gallery No.199 (1st floor), 36th street (upper block).
Forty established artists from Mandalay will exhibit 86 works of art containing realist images, portraits and contemporary artworks in oil, water and acrylic. The exhibition will be open to the public everyday from 9am to 6pm.

Comic serial to screen soon on state-run TV channel

A comic serial directed by Kyi Thar will be arriving on screens from October 12. A number of comedians and actors performed in the serial that will be shown on the state-run Myanmar Radio and Television channel every Monday after the news at 6pm.
“The serial aims to entertain the people who cope with stress and strain of public life,” director Kyi Thar.

Ye Lay releases 'First live concert' album on VCD and DVD

Ye Lay’s hip hop album entitled “First live concert” will be released on October, featuring a number of other singers. This is Ye Lay’s third album and is distributed by Cho Kyi Thar Music Production on VCD and DVD.
Ye Lay’s live show was a big hit in early December 2007, especially the moment when water poured over him during his performance of the song “Rain”.
The VCD includes two discs for K1600. The DVD is K2000.
