THIS two-storey, three-bedroom house in Thaketa township would
do a Roman emperor proud.
With its whitewashed exterior and two-level columns, it’s
an imposing presence in this Thaketa township housing compound.
Located just off Yadanar Street, which leads to Dagon Seikkan
Industry Zone, the house is in a quiet and peaceful setting on
4800 square feet of land.
The compound is almost entirely dark-coloured concrete but does
have a small water feature, a white elephant and impressive gates
that do the house justice.
The pillars aren’t just for decoration; they hold up a
massive portico, which stretches over the second floor balcony.
Below the balcony, a fancy double-door opens into the large living
room, which is decorated with soft pink tiles, light yellow walls
and a white ceiling with elaborate cornicing.
A small, capsule-like iron door leads from the living room into
the master bedroom, which is to the left of the ground floor.
The bedroom has laminated flooring and also features an unfinished
ensuite. The bathroom area is already tiled but has no shower,
toilet or hand basin.
A door leads from the bathroom into the dining area, which the
owners have split with an elaborate partition that offers some
privacy when guests are present in the lounge.
The dining room opens onto a kitchen that is serviceable at
best but does have a large amount of storage space.
At the top of the curved, steel-rail staircase is a large open
area that has been loosely divided into a shrine room, study,
two bedrooms and one bathroom.
Because the rooms are partitioned, there is a distinct lack of
privacy. The open feeling is enhanced by the high, angled ceiling.
A notable feature here is the 1000-litre steel water storage tank
installed above the shower room.
The lengthy balcony offers views of the concrete compound. The
six-month-old house comes with government water supply and one
electricity meter. The land is part of a 60-year lease.
