MYANMAR’S state oil company is to explore offshore oil and gas in a joint venture with two Vietnam companies, state media reported on October 4. It allows the companies to explore supplies in the Gulf of Martaban, south of Myanmar in the Andaman Sea.

The 1726 kilometre road, named after General Joseph “Vinegar Joe” Stilwell, was built in the latter months of the war to supply weapons to Chiang Kai Shek, China’s leader during the Second Sino-Japanese War, as his Kuomintang forces battled the retreating Japanese in China’s Yunnan province.

 
The competition was jointly run the Association of Myanmar Architects (AMA), Myanmar Engineering Society (MES) and received 30 entries. There were three categories; a community cyclone shelter for 100 inhabitants, 300 inhabitants and 600 inhabitants.
