Animated film about King Alaungphaya

Director Zaw Htet has created a 3D animated cartoon about King Alaungphaya, the Myanmar king who founded the Konbaung dynasty that ruled until 1885. Writer Chit Oo Nyo scripted the animation.

Director Zaw Htet said King Alaungphaya’s illustrious life and his bravery have always held a big attraction for him.

“Since 2004, I tried to get a team together with my friends who are crazy about animation, the team is called “4 Dimension groups animation studio” and we all wanted to make an animation about life story of Alaungphaya, who founded the third Myanmar dynasty,” said the director.

Creating the animated movie cost K17, 000,000 and took four years to make. The animation is targeted at young people so that they might learn the biography of one of Myanmar’s most famous kings.

The film made use of historical records and documents collected from Shwe Bo district where Alaungphaya was born. Part one of the animation will be distributed on VCD on October 21 with part two to be released at a later point.

Alaungphaya, the son of a village headman, rallied the Myanmar and led them in the fight against their Hantharwaddy rulers. He seized the
important town of Ava in 1753 and moved south, uniting upper and lower Myanmar under his rule. Pursuing the Mon, he invaded Siam but was wounded in the siege of Ayuthia and died while returning to Myanmar.
