“It is an important milestone in the development of renewable energy sources within Myanmar. And it’s something that MAGT has been working on since December 2006,”

“The Chinese were interes-ted in our fisheries products. But in the Nanning market we have to compete with Vietnam,” the official said. “We learnt that there is a demand for some kinds of Myanmar fish that the Chinese like a lot. So we can sell that kind of fish there.”

“Now we are getting US$7000 a metric tonne for export quality eels and we are exporting 300 viss to 400 viss a week,” U Yone Kan said (1 viss equals 1.6 kilograms or 3.6 pounds).
FIRST Myanmar Investment Company (FMI), one of Myanmar’s public companies, celebrated 16 straight years of profitability at its November 5 annual meeting.

CEMENT sales are down compared to this time last year. Prices are also lower than they were at the beginning of the month, though still higher than they were one year ago, industry sources say.

“The building in front of us has large tinted windows that reflect sunlight into our apartment every evening. This floods our apartment with glare and makes it very hot,”

“This is a sign that the property market here is booming, with high demand for both purchase and rental. We’re now negotiating with the owners for duplex construction with Planned Area Estimation (PAE) system, where the cost of the apartment is based on the floor area. These take three months each to finalise,”

HOUSE OF THE WEEK
Sitting in a laneway between Pyay and Baho roads, the plot measures about 0.25 acres. It’s also close to the Sawbwar Gyi Gone highway complex, Mingalardon Airport and several golf courses.

“With their low and limited levels of development, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam are the most vulnerable countries to negative upheavals in the regional and world economy,”

“We usually grow watermelon, sunflower, and pulses and beans in winter but we didn’t grow summer paddy as there is not enough water supply. We, the local villagers here, mainly rely on paddy. If the harvest is not good, both landowners and employees have a problem,”

“We hold a ceremony at the monastery on the second day of every month as a remembrance for the deceased,” said villager Kyaw Lin. “We need alms to complete repairs of the building but right now nobody can give alms.”

THE government last week rejected Bangladeshi demand to halt oil exploration activities being undertaken by Daewoo International in the Bay of Bengal off the Rakhine coast in an area claimed by both nations.

“I admit that we do not do any cooperative assessments as yet but we do ensure that information about what crops our members are growing and how much has been planted is available to the other ministries.

THE government of Singapore and other well-wishers donated more than 200 boats on November 1 to fishermen whose livelihoods were affected by cyclone Nargis, and the boats were handed over at a ceremony held in Ban Kyun village in Ayeyarwady Division’s Pyapon township.

“Another reason for becoming a presenter is the nature of my job. When a commercial company wanted to promote their product with my models, I used to present [their events] because I understood their company and their product well… Over time other companies invited me to present their events. I have been presenting for over 10 years,”

I have my hair cut every three months. Changing styles is very important for the actors and actresses. You should be different for every character. So I always prepare for the characters before I act.
