A Myanmar team led by Deputy Minister for Commerce Brig-General Aung Tun and the India delegation also discussed the regular trading of beans and pulses, and an agreement was reached to sign a contract every two months at the current international prices.

“This was not an easy decision to make and I thank Thailand for weighing carefully all the factors before deciding to postpone the summit. I appreciate very much the consideration Thailand has given to the ASEAN member states’ concerns,”
“But it just shows that you get what you pay for. I don’t really understand people who book on a budget airline and then complain when they receive less service than on an airline like Thai Airways,”

“Normally, King Abdul Aziz Airport at Jeddah, the sole entrance for the millions of Hajjis around the world coming to Saudi Arabia every year, closes at noon on December 2. But Myanmar Hajjis could not meet the deadline because of the closure of the airports in Bangkok,”
“For example, in Dedaye township we are working in areas near the sea that are far away and not easily accessible, and therefore have not been properly targeted by aid organisations,”

A few miles before Intagaw, we cross Lagunbyee (or Lagunbyin) Creek, which marks the border between Yangon and Bago divisions. Just to the northwest lie the ruins of Lagunbyee, an ancient Pyu city that in Mon times was a military stronghold that protected the capital Bago.

We left the city in the morning on three motorbikes, two of the vehicles carrying two people each, and one carrying a single rider. I had never been to Yankin Hill before, so I was excited to set off, and I especially relished the feeling of the cool, fresh winter air on my face. It was definitely sweater weather, but not frigid enough to be uncomfortable.

“We also suffered from the war as much as Myanmar people did. We want to help the Myanmar people as much as we can because we both experienced the bitterness of war,”

”The storm destroyed all my property. Now it’s time to begin salt farming, regardless of whether we get any loans from the government. Otherwise our lives will never return to normal,”

Major Tin Win (Retired), the manager of research, technology and training at the centre, said the objective of the course was to teach rubber tree growers how to produce high-quality rubber products in preparation for the government’s plan to increase domestic rubber production.

“The sale prices of these shops have increased over that timeframe by about 600 percent, and rents have jumped by between K5000-10,000 a month over last year,”

“The inspector visited some factories and advised us what should be changed in order to comply with their standards. According to him, most of our factories don’t need major changes or modifications because most of them are already at a high standard,”

“If you go to 10 different gold shops, you’ll get 10 different prices. But when the association’s office is up and running anyone will be able to just ring up and find what the price is,”

The four-bedroom house gives a quality impersonation of a layer cake with its square design and colour scheme that incorporates frosty whites with sugary pinks and spongy yellows. It’s a scheme that would work well, were it not for the ugly black horizontal security bars.

“When Thet Hnin Aye came and asked me for the music, I accepted at once because I thought it would be very easy. But when we started we found that it wasn’t easy at all. As it is a fashion show, we have to compose music without words and the music must complement the designs as well as synchronise with the actions of the models,”

“As far as I am concerned, drama in the form of one act plays can convey an effective message to people through performance and recitation. We could use the drama in schools to convey messages to young people through performance. This would be good fun for young people too”

“It was the time I decided on a career as a fashion designer. Before then, I was only interested in sewing. I learnt traditional dress making under the guidance of Aunty Cho in my hometown. I watched fashion channels on satellite TV and my interest veered towards creating different styles. When I realised what I wanted to be in the future, I left the place I loved, taking a big risk,”
