“I arrived here at 10am and I still haven’t had the chance to buy a prepaid SIM card. I want to buy one to see how good they are, although I don’t really know too much about them,”

“We want to make merit on behalf of our king whose 81st birthday also falls on December 5, and it is a further blessing that the Ear Surgery Mobile Unit offered free treatment on the king’s birthday,”

“Delta residents don’t have to worry about fuel wood at the moment, but they will face fuel wood problems in coming years as a result of the huge number of trees that died in cyclone Nargis,”

“This will help establish Singapore as a top-of-mind destination for their year-end travels, particularly for families and those seeking a fun weekend getaway,”
“Our experience, both as a leading contributor to the cyclone Nargis relief operation and to other vital programs like the Three Diseases Fund, demonstrates that it is possible to deliver aid effectively in this country, direct to those who need it, through the UN as well as national and international NGOs,”

“The numbers are well within our aim of establishing the Flyer as Singapore’s most iconic attraction. At this rate, I am confident that we can achieve our target of 2.5 million visitors in our first year of operations,”

However, leaders from a number of member states have expressed their desire for the summit to be held earlier than March and called for the event to be moved to Jakarta if Thailand was not prepared to host it earlier.

“Singapore also has other attributes that are attractive for parents thinking of sending their children here for study, especially from Myanmar and Indonesia. For example, our country is very safe due to political stability and low crime rates,”

“In the future, we plan to organise more seasonal festivals or traditional performances because currently there are few entertainment activities for tourists compared with other beaches,”

“Survivors of the storm are eager to grow trees in their villages. They have become aware of the value of trees now, since most people left alive after the storm survived by clinging to the trees. Moreover, they saw that villages with more trees lost fewer victims to the storm,”
“We bought a large stockpile of betel nuts three months ago for K2300 per viss. But we can only sell it at K2200 a viss, so we’re losing K100 on every viss,”

“Although demand remains strong for downtown apartments, the market elsewhere, like Kyeemyin-daing, is stagnant. So we take care when choosing the location for our next project,”

“Generators with an 800W and 2 kilowatt (KW) capacity are more popular. Some consumers choose 800W for lighting and TV, while others go for 2KW in order to power water pumps as well. Consumers prefer Chinese generators that come with a six-month guarantee, and the shop owner has to provide maintenance service if the unit breaks down within that period,”

RAZOR-WIRE, spikes, Roman pillars and a concrete yard are all mercifully missing from this house in South Dagon township. Instead there’s open space inside and out, a garden, and great natural lighting and ventilation.

“It was impossible to go back to Yangon and bring back the required things. And the drum room was very new so the acoustics were quite different from what we were used to at the normal studio. To get the sound we wanted, we had to cover the walls with curtains and cork,”

THIS week, Time out had a long chat with the members of Blueberry when we accidentally met at a shopping centre. Blueberry is a three piece pop band who arrived on the music scene in 2004 although in 2006 one member of the band left leaving just Ah Pan and Ah Pu. Most girl-bands arrive on the music scene and disappear soon after, but not so Blueberry. Time out asked the secret of keeping their four year old band.
