PEACEFUL, secluded, with a steeply-pitched roof suitable for a rainy tropical climate, and nary a Corinthian column in sight – this furnished three-bedroom house in Bahan township may be what you’re after.

The house is located in its own 5000-square-foot compound off Kabar Aye Pagoda Road, north of Shwe Gone Daing Junction.

The narrow access lane, barely wide enough for two cars abreast, conveys the sense of privacy. The green lawn, shaded with tropical trees, provides a welcome contrast to the concrete driveway. Parking space is ample, including a lockup garage.

The accommodation includes servants’ quarters and there is direct access from the garage to the kitchen.

Muted grey and white tiles line the floor and walls of the kitchen, which comes fitted with twin sinks, electric stove with hood, and aluminium storage area. A separate outdoor kitchen sits behind the indoor one, next to a bathroom and a store-room.

Next to the indoor kitchen is the dining area with wood floor and ensuite guest room, perhaps suitable for an elder relative.

A corridor links the main entrance with the wooden staircase, with the dining and living rooms on either side.

Splendid carved dragons play on the heavy wooden furniture in the living room, where sunlight falling from the high window spotlights the yellow curtains. A simple wooden staircase ascends to give access to the master bedroom, an ensuite double bedroom, a shrine room and a living space.

The shrine area, beneath an arched wooden ceiling, is just by the landing, and the upstairs lounge is surrounded by a narrow balcony, which overlooks the front of the house. The master bedroom comes with bathtub, safe, and double bed. The dressing table and side table are in matching red and white.

Government water can be warmed by water heater for bathroom use and two electric meters have already been installed. One telephone line, five air-conditioners, a satellite television system and the furniture are all included in the negotiable price.
