Artist Lun Mya Mya held her 6th solo art exhibition from January
20 to 24 at the Artist and Artisan Organisation Sale Centre at
the East wing of Bogyoke Market in Yangon.
There were 55 paintings on show at the exhibition in various
styles from impressionism to modernism, realism and even abstract.
Painting in what Lun Mya Mya calles the “four isms”
was one aim of the show, however, since the artist prefers impressionism,
most of her paintings were in this style.
Daw Lun Mya Mya, 68, said, “I had to take one year [to
complete] this 6th solo show. I am really satisfied to show all
the ‘isms’ at this show. Among the four ‘isms’,
modernist paintings are special because I have been studying modernism
for only a short time. I think we should learn and create at every
age even though we get older”
One of her modern paintings, “Life” ponders the
meaning of life and is based on a famous poem by Saya Zaw Gyi
entitled “The Route of the Water Hyacinth” (Bay Dar
Lam). In the poem, a dry leaf from a coconut palm falls onto the
water hyacinth, which is floating in a river. Although the water
hyacinth sinks into the river, she never gives up trying to survive.
She has to face the danger of ducks, but she can overcome all
the obstacles and still remain afloat.
Daw Lun Mya Mya loves to travel around Myanmar and is eager
to share the nature of the people in the countryside, seasonal
flowers and beautiful scenes of different places with her audience.
The artist is planning to hold a 7th solo exhibition next year.
