LOOKS are not everything, which is handy considering this three-bedroom house in Mayangone township does not necessarily make a good first impression. It’s not exactly ugly but it sure ain’t pretty – reflective glass and exterior tiles surely have their uses but surely putting them on the façade of a house is among them. Luckily the rest of the house makes up for it by being highly functional.

Mayangone township is a busy place, with the Ocean Super Centre, the airport and several main roads all nearby helping to drive up values. For these reasons the township is relatively hot property, especially for those whose work is not downtown.

The compound measures 0.07 acres with plenty of space at the front to create a garden.

There is a built-in, one-car garage downstairs, right alongside the living room, although the two are separated by a wall. The lounge room itself is long, parquet-floored and includes a moveable partition to split the room into a dining room as well, if required. A double bedroom sits behind the living room and comes with tiled floors and newly painted yellow walls.

Functionality rules in the kitchen with plenty of work space on offer but it’s a little short on storage space. However, just like the exterior, it won’t win any beauty contests. At the back there’s a bathroom and toilet.

A narrow staircase leads up to the second floor, which has been set up as the house’s living space. There are two ensuite bedrooms and a living room. Both ensuites are nicely appointed, with at least one featuring a full-size bath.

The family room opens onto the tiny front balcony – surely a sacrifice to conformity rather than necessity – that will be nice if somebody puts in a garden.

Both upstairs bedrooms also have back balconies upon which to dry clothes, while the flooring in all upper rooms is parquet.

One electricity meter and government mains water are set up for with the house.
