SANCHAUNG township is a lovely place to live – it’s a cosmopolitan, busy, interesting place that’s filled with young families. This apartment, on Baho Road, seems fairly indicative of much of the housing therein.

It’s compact at 990 square feet (18-foot by 55-foot) but comes well-appointed and doesn’t skimp on the trimmings – the walls are painted, the flooring is complete and includes a large section of parquet, the wood partition walls are already erected and the electrical infrastructure is in place. But then, for K30 million, they should be too.

One of Sanchaung’s greatest strengths is its location barely 10 minutes in a taxi from downtown Yangon and only 30 minutes by public transport. Add to that the Asia Royal and Sakura healthcare clinics, and the shopping and dining options within spitting distance of the apartment and you have a desirable location.

Possibly less desirable is the apartment’s exterior that features reflective glass windows and gaudy tiles. On the plus side the apartment block is on the end of a row, so there will only be neighbours on one side.

The entrance is secured with an iron grill at the entrance and a sturdy wooden door; even the balcony has a full-length iron grill.

The white-painted walls on the interior certainly need a bit of touching up since the apartment seems to have been well used. Space is naturally at a premium but there is a double bedroom that has been partitioned from the living room. Between the bedroom and the kitchen, is an open room that could easily serve as a dining room with the addition of a table.

The kitchen itself is large, well ventilated and clean, with oodles of space to prepare and store food. At the side of the bathroom is the bathroom that also includes a brick water tank. However, there is no shower set up yet. Alongside is the toilet.

There is also a door that opens into an emergency staircase at the back of the kitchen.

The real estate agent said the K30 million price is negotiable.
